Review of series "Under a Dome"

The series "Under a Dome" were started last year and already managed to find the admirers. The first a season came to the end with the open final, having left behind more questions, than answers.

And they concern not only the subject line, but also the concept of series in general. It is already known that the first series of the second season will leave in June, 2014 and perhaps it will answer at least part of questions.

The series are shot on a novel of the same name of Stephen King, and the author helped to adapt the book for the screen version. Nevertheless, film adaptation turned out much worse than the paper original. Even names of the main characters and their age were slightly muddled, what to speak about their characters and behavior. If to abstract from the book and to try to consider series as the separate phenomenon, we receive the psychological drama with light seasoning from mysticism and the paranormal phenomena. All plot is under construction round relationship of inhabitants of the small town which are cut off from world around by an invisible wall. "Dome" though plays large role in a plot, actually, is a fantastic assumption – way to show that will be if the modern city is cut off from a civilization.

According to the logic of things, dialogues and characters of characters have to be well stated in the psychological drama. Here also disappointments begin. And matter is not that characters of heroes are registered badly, and that they act absolutely illogically. Heroes constantly say how want to get out from under a dome and hope for its fastest disappearance. At the same time, three days later, after emergence of a dome they already start behaving so as if "the big world" does not exist.

If in a case with Junior mockeries at the girlfriend can be explained it with unbalance, the behavior of his father – the Big Jim killing all on the left and to the right, at all is inexplicable. The same can be told and about other characters – Julia Shamuey waits for the beloved husband who remained outside, but constantly flirts with the stranger who in the city appeared incidentally. Farmers shoot at everyone, citizens plunder, force and arrange riots and so on. And the deputy sheriff does not even try to study proofs, and "word" simply takes all. And it "the usual American town"? And after all such to us it is presented before each series.

Dialogues which could extend the subject line, were too tightened and, in the majority, do not cause any emotions except boredom. As a result, at the end of viewing of the first season there was a frank wish that heroes stopped stirring and would go about everyone the own business.

However, there are at series also advantages. First, it is a fantastic component of a plot for which it is unfortunately found insufficiently screen time. The idea is really rather original and if founders did not extend screen time due to dialogues and laid all events during one season, the project, would be ideal. Secondly, it is actors, they perfectly got used to the roles. Actor's game forces to empathize characters and to close eyes to shortcomings. Thirdly – camerawork and special effects, the picture "Under a dome" can quite be compared on quality to the feature film.

Result: "Under a dome" not those series where life of a small town in the conditions of isolation from the outside world is well shown, lack it "atmosfernost" (for example, "Jericho" in this plan is much better). You should not expect from it and unexpected subject turns. Nevertheless, the serial film perfectly will be suitable for viewing in the evening if the same series already bothered you.
