How to apply thermopaste
|Thermopaste, or heat-conducting paste, is applied between the processor and the cooler cooling it. Providing the best transfer of heat, it allows to cool the processor more effectively. It will be useful for owners of computers to know how to apply thermopaste independently. |
How thermopaste works? The matter is that the case of the processor and a radiator adjoin to each other leaky at the expense of not ideally equal surface. Therefore between them there can be an air because of which heat removal from the processor falls for 15-20%. Filling this crack, thermopaste allows to cool better the processor due to the high heat conductivity.
Thermopaste can be got in computer shop (however not it can be found in any shop) or on a radio market. It costs not much, and considering that one matchbox of thermopaste can be enough for 60 processors, putting thermopaste will manage to you in real pennies. Choosing thermopaste, turn on such indicator as heat conductivity. Heat conductivity of thermopaste is measured in watts on the meter increased by Calvin (W / m*k). At the most widespread types of thermopaste this indicator is equal 0,7-0,8, but at some brands can reach to 2.
Some thermopastes to contain fine powders of metals which help to carry out heat better. However thermopaste on the basis of metal can cause short circuit of contacts if inaccurately to apply it. On density of thermopaste it is possible to judge ease of drawing: the thermopaste is more dense, the it will be heavier than it to put. Turn attention to a form of production of thermopaste. Before applying thermopaste, prepare a workplace. In an ideal it has to be the equal, well lit table. Then all periphery is disconnected from the system unit, the sidewall is removed, and it is put on one side on a table. The cooler of the processor is disconnected from food and is removed from the processor.
Having removed a cooler, clear it of the remains of old thermopaste if they are available, by means of a soft rag. Some owners of computers smooth out and grind a processor surface that the cooler is more dense to it adjoined, but it is better not to do after all it if you are not sure of result - can remain without processor. Now it is possible to apply thermopaste.
The layer of thermopaste has to be very thin that the distance between a contact platform of the processor and a cooler was minimum. Too thick layer will badly carry out heat, and the processor will start overheating because of insufficient cooling. It is possible to apply thermopaste in the different ways. Producers advise to level thermopaste by means of a piece of plastic, however at such way thermopaste can collect not on a processor surface, and on plasticity. Therefore it is possible to apply thermopaste in the second way, squeezing out from a syringe small portions of thermopaste on a contact surface of the processor. When you establish a cooler, thermopaste will be distributed by a uniform layer. Watch that thermopaste did not overstep the bounds of a contact platform and did not get on the motherboard.
Having convinced of the optimum thickness of a layer of thermopaste (it should be done approximately), establish a cooler on the processor with the applied thermopaste, accurately fix it (coolers of different producers can have different systems of fastenings) and connect it to the power unit. Collect the system unit, and the computer can use.
It is necessary to apply thermopaste when replacing the processor or a cooler, drying of old thermopaste, purchase of the new processor without previously applied thermopaste or times in few years for prevention.
